Latest update as at 5 March 20128
As you may know, we are installing cable ducts for both East Anglia ONE and another scheme, East Anglia THREE, at the same time. This will mean that East Anglia THREE will not need to dig up Ipswich Road in several years time. Our original plan was to complete all open cut works and re-open the road in one closure. Following discussions with the Highway Authority and feedback from the local community, the road will now re-open for the weekend of 10-11 March following the installation of the East Anglia ONE ducts. After the weekend, the road will be closed again from Monday 12 to Wednesday 14 March to complete the installation of East Anglia THREE cable ducts. I apologise for the inconvenience and the confusion surrounding the closure.
With regards to the suitability of the diversion route, after we received planning consent we consulted further with Suffolk County Council in order to help discharge a number of conditions. Some of these discussions resulted in the Traffic Management Plan and the Highways Improvements and Access Management Plan. These documents capture which roads we will close and which diversion routes we have been instructed to implement by the Highways Authority. It also records any passing places or other improvements the Highway Authority told us to install prior to the main construction phase. I appreciate that for all these endeavours, you are still being asked to share a three mile diversion with higher volumes of traffic than normal. I apologise for the inconvenience.
More information about East Anglia ONE is available on our website.
